What I study...What it means to you.

Hi! I’m Dr. Glenn Tisman, a medical oncologist with focus on clinical cancer research related to chemotherapy and vitamin metabolism as related to most malignant tumors. Because of the critical concern of  tumor growth promoting effects of large as well as small deficient doses of certain vitamins I developed and clinically investigated the effects of supplementing normal as well as cancer patients with a physiologically formulated combination of important vitamins. The formulation named BD Maintenance Plus++ is the only vitamin combination tested for safety and lack of drug interference in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and or radiation therapy. Most important, BD Maintenance Plus++ was found to lack cancer growth promoting effects while delivering the required physiologic vitamin replacement (D, B2, B6, B12) to both normal and cancer patients while avoiding dangerous, tumor promoting vitamin mega-dosing.

Currently his group studies the role of folic acid, B12 and other B vitamins involved in nuclear de novo thymidylate synthesis, and its impact on human pathologies including neural tube defects, colon cancer, Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.

"Strike that...design an experiment and prove it". Herbert had a way of directly attacking important questions even if it required self experimentation.

Dr. Young-In J. Kim, Gastroenterology and Hepatology at St. Michael's Hospital and also a professor at The University of Toronto, poses for a photo with Folic Acid at the hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Kim led a study that found the daughters of rats who took folic acid supplements before conception, during pregnancy and while breast-feeding have breast cancer rates twice as high as other rats. They also had more tumors and developed them at a faster rate.
